How Proxy Rotation Works: Technical Overview
"To run continuous web scraping pipelines without getting blocked, you need to swap your IP address continuously. This is called proxy rotation."
The Mechanics of Rotation
When using a standard proxy, your outgoing IP remains the same. When using a rotating proxy gateway, the IP changes dynamically. This is handled by a load balancer on our servers:
1. Request-Based Rotation
Your web scraper makes an HTTP connection. The gateway assigns an IP address. When your script sends the next request, the gateway routes it through a different IP. Every connection looks like a new visitor.
2. Time-Based / Sticky Sessions
For tasks like logging in or checking out, you need to maintain the same connection state. Sticky session configurations keep the same IP address for a set duration (e.g., 5, 10, or 30 minutes) before rotating.
